$35B Hedge Fund Expands Ripple Partnership Beyond Investment

Analysis
The substantive shift here is that Brevan Howard moves from equity investor in Ripple to paying client of Ripple Prime, turning a capital relationship into a recurring institutional services pipeline spanning prime brokerage, clearing, and financing across digital and traditional assets. That matters because Ripple Prime, built out of the Hidden Road acquisition, is positioning itself as a regulated bridge for hedge funds that want XRP and RLUSD exposure alongside conventional instruments, and a $35 billion manager using it is a meaningful credibility signal for that strategy. Watch whether Brevan Howard's usage extends to RLUSD settlement or XRP-linked products, whether Ripple discloses any implementation timeline or revenue contribution, and whether the KBRA BBB-rated unit adds further counterparties or credit capacity after its $200 million Neuberger Berman line. The Hyperliquid integration and Delta One equity desk also suggest Ripple Prime is testing whether DeFi connectivity and total return swaps can coexist under one institutional umbrella, which regulators and rival prime brokers will likely scrutinize.

Ripple Prime represents the institutional trading and brokerage division that Ripple established following its acquisition of Hidden Road, an institutional prime broker. The platform caters to financial institutions, hedge funds, and major investors operating in both conventional and digital asset markets.

The collaboration between the two firms is already established. Brevan Howard entities participated in Ripple’s $500 million fundraising initiative last year, which assigned the company a $40 billion valuation.

Evolution of the Strategic Alliance

Ripple’s market value subsequently climbed to $50 billion following the conclusion of a $750 million share buyback initiative completed earlier this year. Brevan Howard presently manages approximately $35 billion in investor capital.

Alan McGroarty, Group COO at Brevan Howard, noted that the firm observes increasing client demand for infrastructure capable of bridging digital and conventional financial markets. He indicated that Ripple’s technology platform should deliver enhanced operational efficiency and capital optimization for the fund’s portfolio management teams.

Ripple characterized the agreement as addressing requirements from institutional asset managers seeking prime brokerage solutions spanning both cryptocurrency and traditional financial instruments. The firm emphasized that its infrastructure functions within regulatory parameters designed for institutional participants.

Under the enhanced arrangement, Brevan Howard will gain comprehensive access to Ripple Prime’s service suite. This encompasses digital currencies including XRP and Ripple’s proprietary stablecoin, RLUSD.

Expansion Initiatives at Ripple Prime

Ripple Prime has introduced multiple new offerings this year. In August, the division launched equity trading capabilities via its Delta One trading desk.

The desk enables institutional participants to execute total return swaps linked to U.S. stocks. The offering targets hedge funds, liquidity providers, and exchange traded fund sponsors.

Earlier in the year, credit ratings firm KBRA assigned Ripple Prime a BBB credit rating. KBRA noted the operation is in growth phase and developing additional products, including equity prime brokerage solutions and derivatives contracts.

Ripple Prime also obtained a $200 million credit line from Neuberger Berman. The firm indicated the capital will support expansion of institutional margin financing operations.

Ripple Prime recently established connectivity with Hyperliquid, a decentralized trading platform. This represents the service’s first native integration with a DeFi protocol.

The Brevan Howard collaboration demonstrates Ripple’s strategic focus on institutional participants seeking unified access to digital and conventional financial instruments. Ripple has developed these capabilities since completing the Hidden Road transaction.

Brevan Howard’s dual role as both investor and service user underscores the fund’s commitment to digital asset technology. The hedge fund initially supported Ripple during the previous year’s capital raise and has strengthened that connection subsequently.

Ripple has not disclosed a specific implementation schedule for the enhanced services to Brevan Howard. The firm indicated the deployment leverages the existing framework between both organizations.
