Ethereum price rally overheats below $2,550 resistance

Analysis
Ethereum's 30% weekly surge is notable not just for the price move itself but for the structural factors behind it. The rally was triggered by a massive derivatives reset, with roughly $1.1 billion in forced ETH short closures, while US spot Ethereum ETFs recorded their strongest weekly inflows of 2026 at $697.2 million. This combination of short covering and institutional demand suggests the advance has both speculative and fundamental drivers. The key technical question now is whether ETH can sustain a weekly close above the $2,550 resistance zone, which would open the path toward $2,700 and $3,000 according to the report. However, the daily RSI at 79.12 signals overbought conditions, and concentrated liquidity around $2,500–$2,550 could trigger either a breakout or a pullback. Watch for whether ETF inflows continue at this pace, how the overbought RSI resolves, and whether the $2,550 level holds on a weekly basis as the next decisive signals.

Ethereum price traded near $2,478 on Aug. 25 after gaining roughly 30% over seven days, but an overbought daily reading and concentrated liquidity around $2,500–$2,550 could decide whether the rally extends toward $3,000 or enters a deeper pullback. The daily RSI reached 79.12, placing ETH firmly within overbought territory. A weekly close above $2,550 could open the way toward $2,700 and $3,000. Ethereum price holds most of its 30% weekly gain According to data from crypto.news, Ethereum (ETH) price was trading at approximately $2,478 at the time of writing, having eased from an intraday high of $2,532. Ethereum had largely traded between $1,800 and $1,950 during the first half of August before the breakout began. The initial move coincided with an unusually large derivatives reset. CoinGlass data showed that short sellers across the crypto market lost nearly $2.7 billion within 24 hours, while total liquidations approached $3 billion. Ethereum accounted for about $1.1 billion of the forced closures, according to separate reports citing the same dataset. Short covering helped accelerate the initial advance, but ETH has retained most of those gains after the liquidation wave faded. Price has consolidated between approximately $2,420 and $2,530 since Aug. 22 rather than returning to its pre-breakout range. US ETF inflows support Ethereum demand US-listed spot Ethereum ETFs recorded $697.2 million in net inflows during the five trading sessions through Aug. 21. It was their strongest weekly result of…
