Crypto Trading Model GSR Cuts Its Bitcoin Allocation to 17%, Bets Big on Solana

Analysis
GSR's Core3 model rebalance marks a notable shift in how a major crypto market maker is positioning across the three largest digital assets, with Solana now commanding the largest allocation despite being the weakest performer over longer timeframes. The model's design explicitly favors short-term relative momentum over trailing returns, which explains why it increased exposure to an asset down roughly 60% over the past year. This divergence between the model's short-term signals and Solana's longer-term losses highlights the tension between tactical trading frameworks and fundamental valuation concerns. The weekly rebalancing cadence means these weightings could shift again quickly if relative price action changes, so the key development to watch is whether Solana's momentum persists into subsequent rebalances. Additionally, Bitcoin's reduced weighting to 16.9% despite its lower volatility suggests the model is prioritizing momentum over stability, which may signal how GSR views near-term market conditions across these assets.

It is down roughly 36.69% year to date and 60.80% over the past year. That gap between short-term momentum and long-term losses reflects Core3’s design. The model favors recent relative strength over trailing performance. That approach lets it raise exposure to the asset down the most for the year. Solana is down 60% over the past 12 months.
